What is
repainting?

An indicator repaints when signals it showed on past bars change after the fact. On a chart the history looks perfect, but live it would have shown something different. TradingView documents the causes in its Pine Script manual (source).

Common causes

• Using values from the still-open bar as if final.
• Requesting higher-timeframe data with lookahead, which can leak future data into history.
• Pivot or zigzag logic that confirms a point only after later bars print, then plots it back in time.

How to check

• Prefer open-source scripts so the code can be read.
• Watch a signal live in replay or forward test and compare it to history.
• Be skeptical of win-rate screenshots from closed-source tools.
